About

Welcome to Through Darkness in Daylight! I'm glad you found it,

This blog carries the message of hope. Hope to evolve, to be a better version of ourselves, to go through darkness and get back on the other side, to get to live a joyful and fulfilled life.

If you find yourself struggling with depression or know somebody who is, or if you want to understand it better, this blog is for you.

If you want to know what it takes to accept pain and fear and uncover the ever so present love, this blog is for you.

If you want your soul to expand into the connectedness and authenticity that is deep within you, this blog is for you.

When your beauty struck me, it dissolved me. Deep down, I am not different from you. I dreamed you, wished for your existence. I see in you that part of me which is you. I surrender my sincerity because if I love you it means we share the same fantasies, we share the same madness.
- Anaïs Nin

I have created this blog a very long time ago.

First, it was just an idea. At the time I was sick, my illness overtook me, but I knew it was a good idea, some that could send a message for connection, acceptance, and inspiration, and yet I was not healthy enough to make it happen.

I am grateful that I am finally able to tell my story.

I am also grateful and excited to get to know you, dear reader, and I hope that my writing will inspire you.

With love,
Iva

Hello there,

I'm Iva, and here's a little about me.

At the age of 18 I moved from Czech Republic to find the answers to the questions "Who am I?" "Why am I here?" and "What shall I do?".

I moved to Great Britain. I studied art and travelled around Europe.

I made friends and lost them.

I applied to Universities. I wanted to study fine art or fine art photography. I wasn't sure.

Before I could decide depression struck me and obliterated my life for over 7 years.

Now, I live in Portugal, supported by my partner my two cats and dogs, sharing my stories with honesty and compassion.

My weird fears

- One of those weird ones is a spider running across my face while sleeping. But hang on... that already happened to me. It was pretty terrifying and it does wake you up.

- I'm scared to step into a tall grass. If I have to, I'll start hopping really fast into a safe no-tall-grass space.

- You know that dream where all your teeth fall out. Yep, that one scares the crap out of me.

Accomplishments, Dreams, and Projects

- I finished Insanity Max 30 two times in a row. Next, I want to finish Insanity and train for a half marathon.

- I travelled Europe. I camped in Scotland and visited London, Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Rome, Barcelona, Munich, Nice, and Venice. I'm sure there were more. It was exciting, tiring and liberating. Next, I'd love to visit Spain (and see Cadaques again), Asia, and the north of Europe.

- I need to learn Portuguese. No seriously I need to!

- Our weather pets, cats Snow and Rainy and our dog Sunny, will have their own Youtube show.

- We have a foster dog called Amy. I answer questions in Quora as Amy Perez. Not sure how it happened.

- You can read my poems here.

- I'm getting back to the sketchbook, drawing desk and easel. Collection of the artworks I love is here.

- I envy admire anyone whose authenticity shines through their art. Some of them are Ray Bradbury, William Saroyan, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Joanna Newsom, Alela Diane, Damien Rice, Dan Arborise, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, Meryl Streep, Jim Carrey, Allen Williams, Henrik Uldalen, Karla Ortiz, and damn so many more I can't think of right now!
